Organisational structure

The Cancer research Strategy for Wales consists of four groups.

Cancer Implementation Group (CIG):

The role of CIG is to provide overall sign-off and endorsement of activity which supports the development and production of the Cancer Research Strategy for Wales.

Strategic Oversight Board (SOB):

The purpose of the Strategy Oversight Board (SOB) is to oversee the research strategy development, and approval, reporting the work to CIG. With senior representatives from across the cancer research community, SOB is charged with ensuring that a representative and fit-for-purpose national strategy is developed in line with the Cancer Delivery Plan, with adequate stakeholder engagement and consultation. This includes the oversight and consideration of partners’ strategic planning processes and frameworks in line with the Research Strategy. SOB is also accountable for ensuring the timely delivery of the strategy, overseeing the Project Board time lines and reporting to CIG in an adequate timeframe.

SOB will report to CIG

Cancer Research Executive Writing Group (CREW):

Leading the development of the content of the Cancer Research Strategy for Wales, the Executive Writing Group brings together a diverse combination of standard care and scientific backgrounds who have a common interest in the shared writing of the strategy.

The CREW will identify, consolidate and prioritise areas that the strategy will address from across all stakeholders and the cancer community. The CREW will also oversee the practical delivery of the strategy consultation process. Working to the project timelines, the CREW will deliver the Cancer Research Strategy for Wales within the agreed timeframes to the SOB to enable adequate review and sign off.

Project Team:

To oversee the management and administration of the project process and ensure the timely delivery of activity, milestones and delivery to ensure that the project remains on course for delivery. To manage any risks and issues identified, and escalate to the SOB and or CIG as required. To oversee and sign off project documentation, processes, consultation, and delivery as agreed.
